Platinum can reduce stats. Say you were 39 mining it can reduce that second number of any stat to 0. So 39 can become 30.

It also can be redeemed for 30 days of platinum subscription which stacks with a gold subscription.

they can no longer be used to reduce 40 defence to 1 like in rev1?

That feature isn't something we are currently offering, along with buying item rights as this isn't in keeping with the replica direction this server is going in.
