Add a short login timer before able to access shops

Parking alts solely to buy out shop inventory degrades the experience for everyone.

Happens already with F2P, but with P2P, items like runes, feathers, vials, gems, and arrows will be mass-purchased via login-cycled alts parked at shops.

Simple fix: require ~120 seconds logged in before accessing npc shops.

This limits alt cycling and keeps stock available for active players with minimal impact. Players can still keep one character parked, but removing the rapid relogging meta will significantly reduce abuse and hoarding

+1, but also submit this in game as a suggestion. I think they look at that more than the forums.

i mean then it'd benefit subscription users having a 15min logout timer to normies at 5.

The stuff will be mass purchased but hey it is what it is, or are you saying how they cycle through on 1 client lol to 10 diff accs at 10 diff shops. That's a little whack tbh.
Still refine it a little and I'd support.

yah like in this example: it can be 15 diff clients open, the 15 diff characters may be spread across diff accounts.

they set a timer for 2m30s/5m, or whatever it may be. once the timer goes off, they successively log in, buy the inventory at that shop, lap the timer, log out. log in with the next char, buy inventory out, log out, etc., literally all the way thru every shop on the server.

char A is at varrock mage store
char B is at port sarim mage store
char C is at mage bank mage store
char D is at mage guild mage store

char E is at port sarim fish store
char F is at al kharid shanty pass store
char G is at shilo village gen store
char H fishing guild fish store

char I is at varrock archery store
char J is at catherby archery store

char K is at entrana gen shop
char L is at taverly druid shop

char M is at ardougne adventurer store

char N is at al kharid gem store
char O is at fally gem store
char P is at ardougne gem stall vendor

this specific behavior shouldn't be possible

This doesn't solve what you're trying to ultimately address. The majority of players buying at shops have multiple clients open and are not cycling through characters on one client.

The current game design is first come first served to whom has enough gp and time to buy the server shared shop stocks and if you're trying to solve for "everyone should have an opportunity to buy stock" then the stock should become player instanced, not server shared.

However, shops are just a nasty symptom of bad game design when you can introduce engaging game play for the items players are trying to buy (obtain).

Runes - Runecrafting
Feathers - Chickens (introduce a line of avian npcs that drop more feathers or introduce farming where we can gather feathers from our farmed chickens)
Vials - Remaster glass making so that its not a literal pain in the butt to create water filled vials
Gems - introduce gem rocks or some engaging game play where players obtain gems
Arrows - fletching

The game design should encourage the player to spend time creating/gathering items, not time in a store on an alt account buying up stocks.

It blocks a major avenue of it. Under the 2 minute block, you can't use just one of your 5 concurrent ip characters to cycle all 15 stores with diff characters.

Yes, it doesn't fully solve the problem as people will still be able to stay logged in using one of their 5 chars to idle on a single shop, but they won't be able to, when P2P is launched, do it for all the shops.

the two min timer is not nearly as dev intensive as fully redesigning the bad store mechanics, adding instanced shops & balancing/changing how all of these items are obtained in the game, and by extension requiring runecrafting being added as part of the balance like you've said. Those are much more invasive and challenging to implement properly.

The two minute block is a low effort and high reward first measure. I agree that more fundamental reworks of how all the shops function as a whole should be something looked at more down the line

*swishes* your 2-minute block has been implemented. What exactly has been resolved? Because the same problem still exists, just now an annoying timer has been added that can be bypassed by just staying logged in. I can ascertain that no one is logging into 15 chars to buy out ALL shop stocks, if anything its runes, arrow materials, and vials.

ahhh... i see.

Only way to combat this would be? what limit a shop selling to a certain IP? i don't see a way to solve this 100%
The people that do this are beyond sweaty for the game... Limiting items per account etc, but maybe your login timer should work but only after they've done it X times like logged in out 5 consecutive times I'd reckon, who knows..

Like I said before, a two minute timer will block off a major avenue of abusing the shops with a single ip entirely with minimal impact to legitimate players. You seem to think that if an issue isn't entirely and fully remedied in every aspect, that if any and all game mechanics tangential to it aren't also reworked, then it isn't worth pursuing, which is completely wrong. This exact same behavior happens on other RSC servers where the stores get camped with the P2P stores. It will happen again here
